The 11th International Organic Computing Doctoral Dissertation Colloquium (OC-DDC) took place from June 29-30, 2023, at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover, Germany. Jun.-Prof. Dr. Christian Krupitzer from the Department of Food Informatics organized this event together with Prof. Dr. Sven Tomforde (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Germany).
Elia Henrichs from the Department of Food Informatics presented his publication to the topic "Towards Adaptive Intelligent Packaging for Real-time Monitoring of Food Quality". Adaptive software systems can assist with reducing food
waste and improving food safety. These systems include smart sensors to monitor the food’s condition and machine learning frameworks to predict the food’s quality and remaining shelf life. It is crucial to balance these packaging’s energy demand and data gathering. Therefore, adaptive monitoring and adapting sensor sampling rates, in particular, are promising. This work briefly describes existing approaches and their application to intelligent food packaging.
